West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is proud to have been an active member of UK-ISAR, having joined in 1991.

To date the team has deployed to

  • Macedonia
  • Turkey x 2
  • Indonesia
  • Haiti
  • New Zealand
  • Japan
  • Bosnia
  • Nepal

In addition we have taken part in many overseas exercises, undertaking the Operational logistics role.

Based at Horley Fire Station next to Gatwick Airport, the Team is made up of twelve full time Rescue Technicians, specialising in USAR, Rope, Water and Animal Rescue, Heavy lift Operations and MTFA in addition to supporting incidents throughout the County and Nationally.

West Sussex is responsible for the provision, packing and transportation of the operational equipment and through exercising and incident attendance has allowed us to develop an ‘active’ logistical system ensuring that minimum kit is transported around the world, but ensuring that maximum effect is realised by constantly reviewing kit viability.

The team is justly proud of its role and continues to improve the overall effectiveness of UK-ISAR.

Recently West Sussex has fully supported the new Emergency Medical Team with all twelve members making up 25% of the national team.
