UK ISAR attended and was represented by four team members at the Earthquake Response Exercise (ERE) 2025, held in South Africa from 1–5 December at Nelson Mandela University.
This exercise simulates a major earthquake combined with severe flooding to test South Africa’s disaster management system and strengthen coordination and readiness across multiple partners.
By recreating a complex multi-hazard crisis, the exercise validates contingency plans, improves inter-agency cooperation, and highlights areas for development, while also promoting public awareness and community preparedness. It activates disaster management structures at all levels and includes the deployment of international Urban Search and Rescue teams to validate INSARAG standards, strengthen cross-border coordination, and assess humanitarian response frameworks.
With more than 150 participants from 15 countries, UK ISAR deployed four members to the EXCON to provide quality assurance and mentoring in line with INSARAG ERE guidelines.
