Members of UK ISAR recently took part in the UK ISAR Water Purification Course, held in Quatford, Shropshire. The course, funded and supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), is designed to develop essential skills in the testing, storage, and delivery of safe drinking water during international deployments.
This specialist training ensures personnel are fully prepared to operate UK ISAR’s water treatment equipment in the event of a disaster response. When deployed overseas, teams may be required to provide potable water of sufficient quantity and quality to support UK operational staff working in challenging environments.
The course provides hands-on experience in:
- Testing and assessing water quality
- Safely storing and distributing treated water
- Operating UK ISAR water purification systems
- Producing reliable drinking water that meets operational needs
A key element of this capability is its humanitarian value. If required, UK ISAR water purification units can be deployed to disaster-affected areas and left behind to support local communities, providing an ongoing source of clean water long after the team has returned home.
This training strengthens the team’s ability to provide life-sustaining support during international emergencies, ensuring that affected populations and responding personnel have access to safe, clean water when it is needed most.
