June 2023
The Women in the Fire Service Group was established to support, inspire and empower women in the Fire & Rescue Service (FRS). Their vision is ‘To work with FRS’s in developing a culture of equality of opportunity and to support all women in achieving their full potential within it’.
In support of this vision, three female UK ISAR team members attended the June 2023 ‘Women in the Fire Service UK National Training and Development’ event held at the Fire Service College. The team members hosted a UK ISAR stand, as well as running workshops throughout the weekend and introduced 100 women to Urban Search & Rescue (USAR). Including confirmed space, technical search and lifting and moving. All were also introduced to the new USAR dog, Kygo, too!
The event was a huge success, and the team was able to raise awareness and understanding of UK ISAR to over 200 women from across the fire sector. The team received great engagement and positive feedback throughout the vent, sharing skills, experiences from deployments and answering queries to develop and inspire women.
