UK ISAR delivered capacity-building in Malawi in March 2026, working in partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the World Food Programme to strengthen local response capabilities.

The programme focused on providing specialist water rescue training, aimed at enhancing the ability of local teams to respond effectively to flooding incidents. With Malawi regularly impacted by seasonal floods, building this capability is critical to improving resilience and safeguarding communities.
Training was delivered through a combination of practical exercises and scenario-based learning, ensuring participants could apply techniques in realistic conditions. Sessions covered key aspects of water rescue operations, including safety procedures, rescue techniques, and coordinated response during flood emergencies.
By working collaboratively with in-country partners, UK ISAR continues to support sustainable capability development, ensuring that knowledge and skills can be maintained and built upon locally.
This initiative represents an important step in strengthening preparedness and response for future flood events, helping to protect lives and communities at risk.
